Commissioner Carlson said he favored maintaining an annual review but questioned the value of MRC when the county already pays for a private lobbying firm and participates in AMC; he said MRC may tend to align with AMC positions. Commissioner Gould argued the cost is small, the county gains three additional lobbying contacts and the group’s platform this year (human services, IT modernization, solid waste, and mental health) overlaps with county priorities. Commissioner Sumner and others said they were unsure of the benefits and suggested rotating committee assignments or taking a year off to reassess.
Staff said the dues are budgeted and could be processed without a formal vote, but added the item to the regular session as item 10a so the board could record a formal decision if it preferred. The informal tally at the work session leaned against renewing, but no formal vote occurred.
