City accepts $120,000 Ecology stormwater grant to support NPDES program

The Committee accepted a Washington State Department of Ecology stormwater capacity grant of $120,000 to support the city's municipal stormwater permit implementation.
Heather Martin outlined eligible uses: purchase of spill-response absorbents and containment supplies; a pole camera to inspect private stormwater utilities; mapping and documentation work; program development and staff training; and continued education/outreach, including translation of materials and the Adopt-a-Drain behavior-change campaign. Martin said the grant covers 100% of eligible costs and must be spent by March 31, 2027.
A motion to accept the grant, amend the budget, authorize expenditure of funds, and authorize the mayor to sign agreements subject to final terms acceptable to the Public Works Director and City Attorney was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Martin said the funding helps the municipal stormwater program meet NPDES permit obligations and supports ongoing illicit-discharge response capacity.
