Council accepts two TIB grants: $3.5M roundabout project and $1.4M sidewalk connection

The Committee of the Whole voted to accept two Transportation Improvement Board grants awarded in 2025.
David Payne, the city's transportation planner, described the first project: reconstruction of the Southeast 248th Street at 116th Avenue SE intersection as a single-lane roundabout that will add pedestrian facilities and a shared-use path roughly from Daniel Sortune Elementary to about 118th Avenue SE. The total award for that project is $3,500,000.
The second project is on West Hill: an extension of a 10-foot-wide shared-use path along Reath Road from an in-progress intersection eastward toward 42nd Avenue South and connections to Fenwick Park; the total project estimate is about $1,900,000 and the grant award is $1,400,000.
Motions to accept each grant, amend the budget, and authorize the mayor to sign related agreements were moved, seconded and approved by voice votes.
Staff said the projects align with the transportation master plan and are intended to increase multimodal connectivity and pedestrian safety.
