Albany County Legislature adopts organizational resolutions authorizing grant applications and tax-roll corrections

The Albany County Legislature adopted seven organizational resolutions at its Jan. 5, 2026 organizational meeting, covering clerk and counsel appointments, grant-application authority for county offices, and limited tax-roll correction authority for the 2025 calendar year.

The Clerk read Resolution 1 appointing the Clerk of the Legislature; the body voted in favor and the resolution passed. Resolutions 2 and 3 appointed the majority counsel and deputy majority counsel; Resolution 4 appointed the minority counsel. Each measure passed on voice vote with no recorded opposition. Before reading Resolution 6, the chair noted updated language at members’ desks; Resolution 6 authorizes county offices and departments to submit grant applications without separate, individual action by the Legislature and it passed. Resolution 7 authorizes the director of the Real Property Tax Service Agency to approve certain applications for correction of tax-roll errors, refunds, and credits during the 2025 calendar year without prior legislative audit.

During the announcements the chair observed that the selections for the clerk and deputy clerk represent notable milestones: "I will note that we have also made history with the selection of our clerk and the deputy clerk to women of color and I'm pretty sure that's never happened," the chair said. The meeting closed with an announcement about MLK celebrations and an associated county food drive.

All seven resolutions were recorded as passed during the session. The legislative body then adjourned after brief closing remarks.
