Summary
The commission reapproved a previously expired site plan for two hotels (Homewood Suites and the Element) at 101 Summit Drive; the plan is unchanged from the 2023 approval except a proposed pool was replaced by a sitting area.
The Mainland Planning Commission voted unanimously Jan. 6 to reapprove a site plan for two hotels at 101 Summit Drive that had expired since its original approval in 2023.
Christopher Carey, Glynn County senior planner, reminded commissioners the application had been approved March 4, 2023 but the site‑plan authorization had lapsed. Carey said the only material design change since that approval is the elimination of a proposed pool for the Homewood component, which has been converted to a sitting area.
Dan Fisher of EMC Engineering, the applicant's agent, said the site plan is “virtually identical” to the prior submission and noted the developer previously built an adjacent TownePlace Suites. No members of the public spoke in opposition. A commissioner moved to approve the site plan as presented; the motion passed unanimously.
With reapproval in place, the applicant may proceed to pursue building permits, subject to the county's standard permitting and inspection processes.
