Meredith Bush, agent for Rena Land LLC, told the Escambia County Planning Board on Jan. 6, 2026, that the applicant was withdrawing rezoning application Z2020-513 for the 600 block of Cessna Road. “We’re withdrawing the request,” Bush said, citing staff findings and community outcry.
The application sought to change the property’s designation from MDR (medium-density residential, 10 dwelling units per acre) to HDR (high-density residential, 18 dwelling units per acre). The change had been filed by Meredith Bush on behalf of the property owner, Rena Land LLC.
Planning staff had provided findings of fact to the board before the hearing. After Bush’s announcement, board members clarified procedural options for the property owner. Mister Jones said property owners retain the right to reapply and that any new application would require the same notifications and payment of associated fees.
No formal vote on the rezoning occurred because the applicant withdrew the request. The board accepted the hearing package and findings into evidence earlier in the meeting and recorded the withdrawal for the record. The planning board will consider other cases at future meetings as scheduled.
