Dunn County commissioners donate $10,000 to new sheriff’s association to seed community events

Detective Casey Brosson, who identified himself as a Dunn County Sheriff’s Office detective and president of the newly formed Dunn County Sheriff’s Office Association, asked county commissioners for startup funding to support community events and to offer supplemental assistance to deputies and families.
“We're a nonprofit and help build morale outside of what we do internally,” Brosson said, describing planned community activities such as dances and “shop with a cop” events and saying the group had filed with the secretary of state. Brosson provided a rough startup budget and said the association planned to work with a Dickinson-area foundation to manage funds.
Commissioner Pelton moved to donate $10,000 and Commissioner Heizer seconded. A roll-call vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously. After the vote, Brosson said the association intends to create a Facebook page to publicize events and asked the county to let organizers know upcoming event dates so commissioners could participate.
The board’s action provides immediate seed funding; the association will report back to the board after hosting an initial event, commissioners said.
