Suwannee County hires Jason Furry as county administrator under negotiated contract

The Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 6 voted unanimously to approve an employment agreement for Jason Furry to serve as county administrator.

Board members debated the contract’s term and renewal clause during general business. Commissioner Mobley asked for a three‑year term; others favored a five‑year term with automatic renewal language. County Attorney Morrison explained the practical effect, including potential severance implications if the board terminates the administrator before a contract term ends. Several residents spoke during public comment, both raising concern over compensation and urging support; speakers included Lisonbee Summers and Kent Weaver. After discussion and a brief recess to allow additional comment, Commissioner Land moved and Commissioner Mobley seconded approval of the negotiated contract with a clerical correction; the motion passed 4–0.

Public commenters and board members noted Furry’s long service in the county and urged the board to ensure continuity for several large capital projects already underway. The board also formalized that the administrator would be a selected‑exempt employee (no overtime) and that accrued leave and retirement contributions would port to the new role per the contract terms.
