City staff told the Natural Resources Board on Jan. 6 that the Treasure Coast Food Bank’s first mobile pantry on Dec. 19 at Riverview Park Complex served a large crowd and distributed 21,957 pounds of food.
Speaker 2 described the Dec. 19 distribution as including roughly 18,297 meals’ worth of items, with about 9,000 pounds of produce plus milk, meats, pet food, holiday items and donated toys. The event ran for roughly 2½ hours and drew a queue of cars in the overflow parking area; staff noted volunteers and city staff supported traffic flow and distribution.
A follow-up mobile pantry is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 24 from 8–10 a.m., possibly at City Hall; staff encouraged board participation and noted that volunteers must register and sign waivers. Dan, Paul Halloran (from the Parks Recreation Advisory Committee) and Richard Blankenship (Parks Recreation Facilities Director) were cited as on-site volunteers and staff who helped coordinate the Dec. 19 event.
Separately, the board debriefed the Christmas parade: seed-packet giveaways and candy were popular, but supplies ran out early; members suggested ordering more items and earlier float construction for future parades.
Staff characterized the food-bank partnership as a successful first event on city property and said they will meet with the food bank to review geographic data and options (mobile route, brick-and-mortar, or food lockers) for future programming.
