Rep. Jody Arrington (R-Tex.) said Thursday that Republican economic policies and provisions in what he called the "big beautiful bill" are reducing inflation and improving wages.
"If you look at the 2.1 core inflation, that's less than half of the annual average inflation rate under Biden and 1 fifth of of the 9% that it got to under his watch," Arrington said, arguing the combination of lower spending and increased domestic energy production is "putting more money in people's pockets" and raising real wages.
Arrington told the interviewer he expects Americans to receive large refunds and reduced withholdings next tax year, saying twice that there will be "$100,000,000,000 plus less withholdings in the next tax year," and characterizing the change as part of the payoff from pro-growth policies in the bill.
He contrasted his position with Democratic policies on health care, saying premiums and deductibles have risen since the enactment of "Obamacare" and criticizing what he called "COVID era fraud ridden subsidies," which he said contributed to inflationary pressure.
Arrington also said he expects trade deals and new expensing options to further support growth, saying companies will "take advantage of all these different expensing options and the pro growth policies that we put in the big beautiful bill."
The claims made in the interview were presented by Arrington as his assessment of recent economic trends and as predictions of policy impact; the interviewer did not offer independent analysis or countering data during the segment. The interview closed with Arrington reiterating that the combination of the policies he described is "extinguishing the flames of the inflationary firestorm," language he used to describe his critique of Democratic fiscal policy.
