Staff updated the Mooresville Redevelopment Commission on the Main Street project and outreach plans as the town moves into active construction season. Speaker 2 said Main Street office hours will restart Jan. 21 and be held the third Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Airmos to provide merchant support and information.
Speaker 2 said the project is nearing active work: "construction will begin on the West End, in February." Staff reported they were finalizing right-of-way and right-of-entry issues and continuing coordination with stakeholders. The commission discussed outreach steps including convening an in-person or Zoom session for downtown merchants to learn from counterparts in nearby towns about what worked and what did not during similar projects.
Construction observation and communications were highlighted: speaker staff said Banning will provide daily construction observation and act as a point of contact to ensure the work follows plans and to notify property owners. Speaker 4 said resident and master gardener Dave Snyder has supplied a list of proposed street trees and offered to consult with staff on selections; staff agreed to pass the list to the designated project lead (Rachel) and to follow up with Snyder.
Commissioners emphasized minimizing disruption to downtown businesses during construction. Staff described planned merchant outreach, tourism coordination and contractor oversight as measures to maintain access and communicate changes during the project.
