The Fayette County Commission opened its first regular meeting of 2026 and quickly moved through organizational business, appointing John Brennan as commission president and naming Ruth Lanier as purchasing agent with authority to approve expenditures up to $15,000 except for law‑enforcement accounts. The board approved the appointments by voice vote.
Commissioners also ratified their meeting schedule (every other Wednesday) and addressed routine clerical business. The clerk presented regular exonerations and a refund request; after individual consideration the commission approved refunds and three orders to combine parcels. Commissioners approved payroll and accepted minutes for October and November after an editor’s review.
The actions were procedural but establish leadership and administrative authority for the commission’s work through the coming year. No legal objections were raised during the motions.
