The Birmingham City Council on Dec. 9 approved a resolution granting a lounge retail liquor class 1 license for Turntable BHAM LLC, operator of the Botanist Greenhouse at 5535 1st Avenue North.
Brandon (transcript: "Bridal") Prince, the applicant, said he purchased and renovated the former City Meats building and plans to operate a greenhouse-themed bar and courtyard performance space shared with neighboring businesses. Prince described hours of operation: Wednesday'Thursday roughly 3 p.m. to midnight, Thursday'Saturday noon to 2 a.m., and Sunday noon to 10 p.m. For public safety he said the venue will use security cameras tied into the Birmingham system and employ off-duty officers.
Councilor Gunn noted the applicant had previously presented to the Woodlawn Neighborhood and received unanimous neighborhood support. Council members asked about hours and safety plans; no members of the public spoke in opposition during the hearing. The clerk announced that item 8 passed.
