At its Jan. 7 meeting the Sports Pavilion committee reviewed several capital projects for the bowling and billiards areas, including proposed billiard-room lighting, replacement pin strategy and new back-wall artwork.
Gary said the billiard-room lights are estimated to cost between $15,000 and $20,000 to purchase and that installation and related costs put the total project near $41,000. "I think that's something that, Herschel is working on as far as getting someone to come in and hang it and get us a price quoted," Gary said.
On equipment, Gary described testing of synthetic pins from Brunswick that have shown better durability in trials. He told the committee the synthetic pins cost about $20–$30 more per box but may extend usable life by roughly one year, which could reduce replacement frequency and long‑term cost.
The committee also heard that previously selected masking-artwork options are no longer available; staff are working with Brunswick and designer Martin on new designs that include a Sun City West logo option and a patriotic option to honor veterans. Gary said the plan is to post four candidate designs on the website and let residents vote for their preference.
On repairs, the chair reported the Lizard Acres floor covering (a preexisting issue discovered after reopening) was repaired and required about two days of closure to fix a nearly full-width section of flooring.
No formal capital appropriation vote was recorded at the meeting; staff agreed to return with installation quotes and more precise cost details at a future meeting.
