Florence — Public works staff described an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality grant of $217,784.52 to purchase a trailer‑mounted asphalt processing unit that will allow the town to process and reuse milled pavement from town projects.
Public works staff said the trailer will reduce landfill disposal by roughly 475 tons a year, enable reuse of 100% of milled asphalt from town projects and save an estimated $169,000 annually in landfill tipping fees. The unit will be trailer‑towed, include processing equipment and a recycling “rejuvenator” to restore milled material for patching and preservation work.
Council members praised the environmental and budget benefits and asked for a demonstration and photos of the unit for public materials and packet inclusion. The council voted to accept the grant.
What’s next: Public works will schedule a demonstration for council and include unit specifications in the public packet; staff expect to start realizing savings once the unit is purchased and deployed.
