County accelerates airport master plan and seeks funding for beacon, terminal fixes and maintenance building

Andy Wade, the county's economic development director, and Britney Shoop, the airport manager, briefed the commission on airport items in the FY27 CIP and asked for prioritization of a master-plan update now that the county has assumed ownership of additional airport acreage.
Shoop described a proposed LED rotating beacon replacement and terminal-building improvements (new flooring and a roof update). She said one project carries a 90% FAA share with the county paying a small local percentage; a separate beacon request was described as an 80/20 split with the Department of Aviation covering 80% and the county 20%.
Wade said the county added about 200 acres to the airport property when purchasing it from the IDA and that a timely master plan will guide where hangars and other revenue-generating infrastructure should be sited. "We really wanna get the master plan done," Wade said, noting a t-hangar wait list and the need to align future runway and development projects with the plan.
Officials emphasized the master plan's role in informing multi-year CIP priorities and in targeting grant-funded projects that would require local matches.
