Council adopts 2026 legislative priorities, adds water/waste funding

Bullhead City Council on Nov. 18 approved its legislative priorities for the 2026 session and added a separate line item to pursue grants for water and wastewater improvement and replacement.
Assistant City Manager Travis Pruitt reviewed the staff‑draft priorities: pursue roadway funding (including right‑turn improvements on Highway 95), pursue public safety funding (police communications and related training), continue to support State Lake Improvement Fund (SLIF) projects, and pursue changes to short‑term‑rental legislation to allow greater local control. Pruitt said the list is intended to guide conversations with state and federal partners and to help staff and the mayor prioritize requests during ad hoc opportunities.
Vice Mayor asked to add a second priority to pursue funding for water and wastewater improvements; the council discussed placement on the list and subsequently approved a motion to insert the water/waste funding line as item number 2 and adopt the rest of the priorities as presented. Council members also suggested emphasizing training in the public safety line and identifying dangerous intersections as a potential roadway focus.
The amended priorities will guide the mayor, city manager and assistant city manager when advocating in Phoenix and elsewhere during the legislative cycle.
