The Bullhead City Council voted unanimously Dec. 2 to rename Firebird Field (at Rotary Park) as Bighorn Field, reflecting the facility's current primary use by Mohave College soccer and college-affiliated teams.
City staff and Parks & Recreation representatives reviewed the field's history and use, noting earlier Firebird teams and a community effort to build and maintain the stadium. Staff proposed installing a monument to preserve the Firebird legacy while allowing the new Bighorn name to reflect current usage.
Mehdi Arzimi and Gary Cooper, representing Mohave College and boosters, described the college's recent athletic success and community support. Arzimi told the council that private sponsors will cover the cost of new signage and electronic displays and that "It is not gonna cost the taxpayers of the city a penny. It is going to be 100% covered by a sponsor." The council approved the change 7–0.
Council members also noted plans to acknowledge historical contributors with a permanent monument so the Firebird name is not lost entirely. No public opposition was raised during the call for public comment on the item.
