Council awards $838,033.86 contract to drill new well for northern service area

Bullhead City Council authorized the utilities director to execute a contract with KP Ventures Well Drilling and Pump Company LLC for an amount not to exceed $838,033.86 to drill a new production well serving the North Mohave/Lake Mohave Highlands area.
Utilities Director Mark Clark told council the area’s existing small wells produce 100 gpm or less and run almost continuously; the new well is intended to provide substantial backup capacity. Clark said staff expects at least 400 gpm from the new well and optimistically up to 1,000 gpm depending on drilling results, and that larger casing and deeper drilling were specified to maximize production. He also noted the bid price landed significantly below the engineers' estimate and was roughly $200,000 less than the next bidder.
Council members asked about water‑quality testing and contamination concerns raised by a resident; Clark said the city performs more than 3,000 tests a year across its systems and that new wells require required 'new source sampling' with a full battery of tests before bringing the well into production.
After discussion and a brief public comment reiterating concerns about mining and aquifer contamination, the council voted 7–0 to approve the contract.
