Commissioners appoint Hemmerich as Crook County representative to AOC legislative committee

Crook County commissioners voted on Jan. 7 to accept an offer from the Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) for a voting seat on its legislative committee and appointed Commissioner Hemmerich to serve as the county’s representative. County Manager Will Van Vactor said AOC requested affirmative action because its board meets the following Monday and Crook County would otherwise have no direct vote on AOC legislative positions during the short session.
Van Vactor explained that the AOC legislative committee helps develop county positions during the state legislative session and that Crook County’s participation provides a direct voice on legislative priorities. Commissioner Hemmerich accepted the appointment and said she would attend the board meeting next week. The board approved the appointment by voice vote.
Van Vactor also reminded commissioners about an upcoming week of midyear department presentations and goal‑setting that will feed the FY27 budget process.
