Summary
The Planning Board voted unanimously to approve internal private‑way names for the new Boston Children’s Hospital site to improve wayfinding and addressing; town staff will process formal addressing with emergency services and mapping providers.
The Planning Board on Jan. 6 approved a request by Tim Sullivan, representing Boston Children’s Hospital, to name private internal roadways at the hospital campus “Boston Children’s Drive” and “Boston Children’s Place.” Sullivan said the names will make it easier for patients and families to find clinic entrances and for staff and emergency responders to locate addresses.
Sullivan described the proposed naming as purely for wayfinding and addressing — not a request to accept the roads as public ways — and said town staff (Tom Ryder) has reviewed the addressing plan. "So the idea was to create names and addresses that are very clear for people to know where I come to park and where I come to see my doctor," he said.
After brief board discussion about process and ensuring abutters (including TripAdvisor and the nearby hotel) had been consulted, a motion to approve the names was moved, seconded and carried on a roll call. Voting members (Adam, Natasha, Eric and the chair) all recorded “aye.” The board instructed the petitioner to work with the engineering and addressing staff to formalize addresses in town systems and with the post office and mapping providers.
The new building is scheduled to open later this month; Sullivan said additional addressing tasks for the garage and associated parcels will be processed through town staff.
