Beaumont Council Meets in Closed Session on City Manager Negotiations; No Reportable Action

The Beaumont City Council met in a closed session during an evening meeting to discuss labor negotiations and a public-employee appointment concerning the city manager position and reported that there was "no reportable action" from the session.

City staff read the closed-session agenda items, identifying three matters: conference with labor negotiators pursuant to Government Code Section 54957.6 involving agency-designated representative Henry Garcia and an unrepresented potential employee identified as the city manager; a public employee appointment for the title City Manager; and a second conference with labor negotiators involving interim city manager Gus Romo, interim deputy city manager Carrie Mendoza and listed employee organizations. An unidentified city staff member (Speaker 3) told the council, "There is no reportable action, from closed session."

The council also confirmed that the public portion of the meeting is adjourned and continued to Jan. 13, 2026. Staff announced that the adjourned regular meeting will be held at 550 East 6th Street, Beaumont, California, and that if the council again adjourns to closed session that closed session on Jan. 13 will be at the Holiday Inn Express, 1864 Oak Valley Village Circle in Beaumont. Staff said a notice of the adjournment will be posted within 24 hours at or near the door of the city council chambers.

No motions, votes, appointments, or other reportable actions were recorded in the transcript of the closed session. The council did not announce any formal decisions affecting employment status or labor contracts in the public report-out. The next publicly noticed hearing or regular meeting on these matters will be the reconvened session on Jan. 13, 2026, unless further notice is posted.
