The Charlotte County–Punta Gorda MPO on Dec. 15 approved an amendment to its Transportation Improvement Program to include a new Charlotte County Transit project funded by $134,000 from the Federal Transit Administration’s 5311 rural operating assistance program.

Lakshmi Goram explained the action is required to align the MPO’s program with the statewide Transportation Improvement Program and to program the new operating assistance for transit in rural areas. Staff opened the public meeting portion; no public comments were offered.

The board voted to adopt the amendment by roll call; the motion passed unanimously. Staff said the funds support public transportation services in rural areas and come through the Rural Transportation Assistance Program for operating assistance.
