Staff presented data showing a sharp increase in fourth‑quarter 2025 tonnage for roll‑off and solid‑waste operations, which they said increased the need for a reliable daily backhoe and an immediately available backup machine. The purchase was recommended to come from the solid‑waste special fund; staff emphasized this is a self‑funded department and the cost would not be borne by ad valorem property tax dollars.
On the motion to approve the purchase, commissioners voted in favor and the contract will be executed consistent with procurement rules. Staff said the included service package and the reliability gains justify the expenditure and will reduce downtime costs over time.
Implementation will be managed by the solid‑waste department; staff will report any delivery or service‑package changes to the commission.
