New Peoria County Farm Bureau president urges county planning for livestock rollover incidents

Cheryl Cowper Walsh, the new president of the Peoria County Farm Bureau, used the board's chair's privilege to introduce herself and urge county planning for livestock rollover incidents on nearby interstates.
Cowper Walsh told the board that agriculture "is extremely important to this state and the county here" and described recent training and continuing education the Farm Bureau has hosted. She said the closest emergency rollover trailer available to Peoria County is roughly two-and-a-half hours away and asked the county to consider preparedness measures and partnerships with state agricultural associations to improve local capacity.
"If you guys are interested in being prepared for an accident or rollover, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when," Cowper Walsh said. She offered the Farm Bureau's help in preparing for such incidents and asked the board to consider solutions to shorten response times.
Board members thanked Cowper Walsh for attending and indicated staff (including administrators and relevant departments) would be appropriate points of contact to explore any mitigation or preparedness plans.
