Pasco County updates board on stormwater projects; SWFWMD withdraws cooperative funding for southern outfall

Hanning said the Hudson Stormwater/Wildwood Trailer Park concept study ran into uncooperative property owners and easement obstacles that stalled design work. Staff discussed coordinating with FDOT to install pipes under US 19 during resurfacing projects to reduce costs and improve drainage toward the Gulf.
Construction on the northern outfall is underway; Hanning said East-side work is complete and the pedestrian bridge on the west side of US 19 is expected to be finished this spring. The southern outfall, which had been part of a combined alternative, lost cooperative funding after the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) determined it did not provide sufficient regional benefit following third-party review. Board members urged staff to re-engage SWFWMD, FDOT and local stakeholders to explore cleaning ponds and alternative conveyance approaches that might restore benefits.
