Police Merit Commission approves minutes and claims, hears report on three new officers

The Police Merit Commission convened on Jan. 8 at 5:00 p.m. and approved the minutes from its previous meeting and a claims payment presented during the session.

During roll call the chair confirmed the presence of Commissioners Tom Bergen, Patricia Thompson, Mike Sherman, Chris Zaborowski and Richard Jones. Attorney Linda Meyer, Chief of Police James Ison and reporting secretary Melissa Weathers were also recorded as present.

A motion to approve the minutes was made and seconded; members responded "aye" and the motion passed. Later in the meeting, the commission reviewed a claims report that listed $333 for attorney limited buyer services for December and $75 in per diem payments for commissioners for the evening's meeting. "A motion to pay the claims" was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.

An unidentified board member noted that "tomorrow is the National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" and said, on behalf of the Red Board, "we ... greatly appreciate" the department; the speaker asked Chief James Ison to pass along the board's thanks to department staff. Chief James Ison also told the commission that three new officers would be brought to a council meeting at 4 p.m. on Monday the 19th.

The chair acknowledged a department retirement that occurred that day and offered brief remarks; no personnel actions were taken during the meeting. The commission received no items of old or new business beyond the routine approvals and reports.

A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and carried by voice vote. The meeting was adjourned.
