Board approves two sheriff agreements with Edgerton covering event security and city police services

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously authorized two separate agreements with the City of Edgerton related to sheriff services.

First, the board approved a one‑year renewal for event security at Edgerton’s Green Space at a rate of $80 per hour. County staff explained the arrangement allows on‑duty deputies to provide security (with workers’ compensation and radio) while the city reimburses the county for the full cost; staff noted the fully loaded cost recovery rate calculated for 2026 was $80.15 but the board retained a rounded rate of $80.

Second, the board approved an interlocal agreement for broader law‑enforcement services in 2026 for a total annual amount of $623,747, an increase of 8.2% from the prior year. Staff said the city pays for its share of call-volume costs in the third patrol district and provides full cost recovery for a dedicated deputy position. The contract includes a variable overtime allowance of up to $5,000 billed as needed; sheriff’s staff said they monitor that item and may recommend an increase in future years if necessary.

Commissioners asked about liability for private‑event security, whether the arrangements are full cost recovery, and the reason for the $5,000 overtime contingency. Staff said event security is voluntary overtime and that the city reimburses the county to offset those costs. Both motions passed on recorded roll calls with seven votes in favor and none opposed.

These authorizations continue a multi‑decade partnership with Edgerton to provide policing and event security services under contract conditions the board said provide transparency and cost recovery.
