Shelton council names new mayor and deputy mayor at Jan. 6 meeting

Eric Wanisco was nominated and selected mayor during Shelton City Council’s Jan. 6 meeting, continuing the council’s practice under the council–manager form of government of choosing its chair biannually. City Manager Mark Sickler explained the statutory process and opened the floor for nominations before the council conducted voice roll-call votes.
Council member Gutierrez nominated "the honorable Eric Wanisco," and the council recorded a majority selection; the clerk announced that the winning candidate received four votes. Council members then opened nominations for deputy mayor; Lindsay Sapp and George Blush were nominated but council members voiced support for Council member Stearns, and the council recorded a four-vote selection for deputy mayor.
The council did not take separate ordinance or charter-level action to change the selection process; members and staff characterized the votes as routine procedural business. Both newly selected officers received brief congratulations from colleagues on the council floor.
