Commission approves partial fee waiver for Mill Valley Golf Club, discount set at $40.85

The Parks and Recreation Commission approved a partial fee waiver for the Mill Valley Golf Club, applying a 50 percent discount to the facility rental fee and producing a $40.85 discount for the current fiscal-year rental period.

Jay Ingram, deputy director of the Arts and Recreation Department, presented the request and recommended a 50 percent waiver for the club. "Staff is recommending a 50% fee waiver," Ingram told commissioners, noting the request covered the current fiscal year (January through June 30). He said the club uses the golf clubhouse for dinners, board and committee meetings and events and reported the club's membership at about 345.

Commissioners sought clarification about how the waiver should be calculated after staff presented the fee breakdown. The standard rental fee name-checked during the discussion was $81.70; with a refundable deposit included the line-item total was discussed at roughly $86.70. Commissioners amended the calculation so the 50 percent discount would apply to the rental fee itself rather than the deposit-inclusive total, which produced the $40.85 discount figure.

Tad Inouye, who identified himself as the club president, spoke in support of the club and described prior informal arrangements and rising membership and event demand. "The golf course is on a roll," Inouye said, and thanked staff and the club's volunteers.

A commissioner moved to approve the recommendation as amended to reflect the waiver calculation applied to the rental fee; an unidentified commissioner seconded the motion. The motion passed by voice vote and the commission closed the item with thanks to the club.

Next steps: staff will record the waiver in the department's fiscal tracking for this period and will bring fee-waiver requests forward on the same annual schedule for future fiscal-year considerations.
