The Norwalk Public Library Board voted to approve the wording for a plaque naming the Norwalk History Room for Ralph C. Bloom and discussed timing for a dedication event.
Board members reviewed proposed language that reads in part: "The Norwalk History Room established by Ralph C Bloom, 1972. Ralph C Bloom founded the History Room in 1972 to preserve and share Norwalk's history. Through his work, residents and researchers have accessed Norwalk's history from its founding to the present day. His legacy continues in the ongoing mission to safeguard and make accessible the historical record of the city of Norwalk at the Norwalk Public Library." The board moved to create the plaque, Mary Mann seconded the motion, and members voted in favor.
The board discussed timing for an unveiling event and set a tentative date of Jan. 28, while acknowledging production timelines may push the event into February. Staff and board volunteers were assigned to coordinate production and logistics for the dedication.
The action formalizes a city council decision to name the History Room after Bloom and instructs library staff and board volunteers to finalize the plaque and event details, with the board to circulate final drafts and a memo in advance of the next meeting.
