Mill Valley Council approves street rehabilitation contract, MOU with CLT, and a 2.8% refuse-rate application

The Mill Valley City Council recorded several formal actions at its May 19 meeting.

- Street rehabilitation project: Council authorized staff to proceed with the next-lowest responsive bidder, Gelati Brothers, after bids exceeded the original engineer’s estimate. Staff said the lowest available bid resulted in a total project cost (including contingency) near $3.189 million and that the city will attempt to reduce staging and positioning costs. Council approved the recommendation by roll call.

- Mount Tam Community Land Trust MOU: Council authorized the city manager to finalize and execute an MOU with the Mount Tam Community Land Trust to support acquisition and preservation of affordable housing. The vote was unanimous; any use of city trust funds would return to council for separate approval.

- Mill Valley Refuse Service rate application: Council authorized the submission of a collection-rate application from Mill Valley Refuse Service for a 2.8% maximum rate increase, effective July 1, 2025. Company representatives said the increase aligns with February 2025 CPI (2.7%) and would help cover labor, insurance and truck replacement costs. Council approved the application by roll call.

Other procedural votes: the council approved a revised agenda at the start of the meeting and passed the consent calendar by roll call.
