Highway department staff reported the new highway office and mechanic shop are approaching completion. The presenter said final plumbing and electrical work remains, a gas meter is scheduled for installation, fiber-optic service will be spliced and connected, and generator backfeeds and security lighting are being finalized. Sitework — binder blacktop, stone for entrances and shaping the back entrance to Lake Salinda Road — is progressing.
Commissioners and staff discussed practical final items: the absence of guttering on the building’s north side and the potential for ice to create hazards in truck bays, the need to add truck-heater receptacles, the installation of a gate and fence on the property perimeter, and ensuring transfer switches and alternate power coordination. The presenter said some credits and change-of-scope items were sent for review and emphasized reconciling those credits under the BOT agreement so the county is not surprised by final costs.
Action: No formal board votes were recorded on change orders at this meeting. Staff indicated they would meet after the session to review the change-of-scope spreadsheet and finalize credits and debits before closing the project.
