At a public hearing on Jan. 6, the Select Board approved a petition by Mass Electric Company/National Grid to install a single joint pole on Lovers Lane to support new metering infrastructure. Jeff Silva, National Grid’s representative from the Hopedale office, explained the work: the company proposes to install one pole between existing poles 8 and 9 to provide space for equipment used in the state‑wide metering upgrade.
Board members and residents asked whether a future sidewalk on Lovers Lane would require moving the pole. Silva said the proposed placement is in line with adjacent poles and that if poles later needed to be moved for a sidewalk, multiple poles would be relocated together as part of that work.
No public objections were recorded, the board closed the hearing and voted to approve the application. The hearing notice in the record referenced the town’s public notice procedures and provided a virtual access link for the hearing.
