Southborough Historical Commission: house signs, tricentennial planning and a $5,000 water‑tower study

After two demolition-delay items, the commission reported routine program updates and community projects. Chair Kevin Miller said he delivered a historic-house sign to 34 Main Street (the Charles and Marie Fairbanks House) and has 400 copies of the local history book 'Fences of Stone' available for sale to support the commission’s work.
Miller reported he worked with Michael Wieson of the Southborough Historical Society on clearing items from the Flag School; among recovered materials were historic dresses from a bicentennial celebration and two antique fire helmets, which Miller said have been offered to the Public Safety Building for display. He asked member Michelle to consider display options for the dresses during upcoming tricentennial activities.
Miller also said the Select Board unanimously approved $5,000 on Dec. 2 to fund a condition study of the Rural Cemetery water tower, and the commission expects that study to proceed now that the holidays have ended.
Member Michelle provided a tricentennial update: seven oral-history interviews are complete; planning is underway for a 'Voices from the Grave' event and other celebrations including a house tour, parade, music festival and drone show. The commission discussed selling books at Fayetteville Hall events and coordinating with the Southborough History and Art Center.
Other administrative notes included holding minutes until draft posting, ongoing coordination with the Community Preservation Committee on project funding and outreach to local realtors to distribute commission publications. With no public comment the commission adjourned.
