Keller parks staff: Sports Park 88% complete; entrance closure likely through mid‑February

Cody, a parks staff member, told the Keller Park & Recreation Board that the Sports Park renovation is about 88% complete and crews are finishing the softball concourse and converting decomposed granite to concrete. “Sports Park, we’re 88% complete,” Cody said.

Cody said contractors began renovations on Sports Parkway and that the entire park entrance area is closed; associations and users were notified that there is no field access while the work continues. Staff set a mid‑February target for reopening as a worst‑case timeline if weather delays do not occur, but said favorable conditions could move that date earlier. Cody also said the fourplex synthetic turf work is underway and concrete bases for batting cages are poured.

Board members pressed on whether partial access could be staged; Cody said crews will leave openings near the north end for businesses between Golden Triangle and Soccer Parkway but generally plan closures through the roadwork. He flagged restrooms as a long‑lead item: restroom design still requires roughly three months of design work before construction can begin and likely will not be complete by April.

The board and staff agreed to continue coordinating communications with athletic associations about access and to provide updates at future meetings as the construction schedule and weather conditions become clearer. The board noted seasons are about to start and emphasized the need to lock in any elements that would affect playability or field access.
