Council places multiple public-safety and public-works items on consent, tables park sign design contract indefinitely

On Jan. 7 the Davenport Committee of the Whole consolidated a number of routine procurement and project actions into the consent agenda and approved motion outcomes by voice vote. Alderman Tim Dunn moved to place all public safety items on consent after staff presented them; the motion was seconded and approved.

Key items moved to consent or approved for award or renewal included: the Grand Avenue resurfacing project completed by Hawkeye Paving Corporation for $823,380.25; a one-year renewal (not to exceed $300,000) for on-call sewer televising/inspection/cleaning services with Klein Sewer and Drain LLC; the purchase of a handheld mass spectrometer chemical detection system for the police department from Safeware Inc. for $73,806.32 (using a state contract); the purchase of UV lamps for the water pollution control plant from Exlyn Water Solutions for $154,011; and awards for engineering and landscape services (amounts and vendors read into the record).

Alderman Rick Dunn moved to table item 13, the park sign design guide contract with Corbin Design and Traverse ($62,260), indefinitely and send it back to staff; the motion was seconded, and council approved the tabling by voice vote (Aye). Several aldermen requested additional information or asked to keep specific items on discussion (for example, Alderman Newton asked that item 6 remain on discussion to allow staff to answer legal questions). The council set the public-works agenda accordingly and returned other routine items to consent.

After the agenda-setting votes, the meeting proceeded to other categories and public comment, and the council adjourned by voice vote.
