Norwood Trails committee seeks MassTrails grant; commission offers support

The Norwood Trails Advisory Committee asked the Conservation Commission Jan. 7 for approval and a letter of support for a MassTrails grant application to standardize trail signage and install trailhead kiosks on conservation land, including Meadow Street, the skating-club area, and Germany Brook.
Joe (Trails Committee) described the proposal as a materials-and-minor-installation grant; labor would be provided by volunteers. The application, he said, would fund kiosks, signposts, standardized trail signage, maps, directions, historic and natural background content, safety information and kiosk content. The grant deadline is Feb. 2, and the committee asked the commission to write a letter of support to be included with the application. Joe said Town representative Tony Mazuko would sign the application if the grant request is approved.
Commissioners expressed verbal support during the meeting and agreed a written letter would be prepared by Carly. The committee said there is no anticipated town labor cost for construction; materials and minor installation are the grant focus. The committee noted prior informal meetings and volunteer recruitment; volunteers would perform installation work and help compile kiosk content.
Next steps: the commission will provide a letter of support to accompany the MassTrails application; the committee will finalize materials and volunteer plans if the grant is awarded.
