Vermillion County planning panel re-elects leadership, schedules public hearing on temporary campgrounds

On Jan. 8, 2026, the Vermillion County Area Plan Commission re-elected its leadership and scheduled a public hearing on draft temporary-campground rules.

Joe Ellis moved to retain Larry Langley as president for 2026; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The commission also confirmed Bob Alexander as vice president and appointed Brandon Ruth as secretary and Penny as the recording secretary.

The votes follow routine organizational business to set officers and confirm certified members for the year. The leadership decisions came during the first meeting of the year, which the chair said established continuity as the commission prepares code updates and hearings.

The panel agreed to hold a public hearing on proposed guidance for temporary campgrounds and placement of recreational vehicles at its Feb. 12 meeting. Staff previewed the draft language and said the rules will be presented to the county commissioners in March for further review. According to staff, the draft will include standards for space, parking and septic oversight; the county health department will be involved where septic systems are implicated.

Why it matters: the temporary-campground language is intended to provide consistent standards for landowners and contractors housing construction workers or short-term occupants, and the hearing schedule starts the formal public-review process.

What’s next: the commission asked members to review the draft and submit suggested changes ahead of the February hearing. If approved by the APC, the draft will be forwarded to the county commissioners in March for their consideration.
