Sierra Vista council approves consent agenda, a gaming permit and appointments; awards community cleanup recognition

Sierra Vista — The Sierra Vista City Council handled routine business and springboarded a handful of short actions at its Jan. 8 meeting.
The council unanimously approved the meeting agenda and then moved to the consent agenda. Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn Flowers moved to approve the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the Dec. 9, 2025 work session and the Dec. 11, 2025 regular meeting, and Resolution 2026-0001 to appoint Jessica and Dr. Brian Stover to the Parks and Recreation Commission with terms expiring Dec. 31, 2028. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote; no opposing votes were recorded.
During the public hearing period Councilwoman Angelica Landry moved to approve Resolution 2026-0002, authorizing a gaming permit for Skyfall 7 LLC (doing business as Turf Paradise) to operate at PC's Lounge. Miss Adams summarized the revised staff report and noted the police department found no objection; the council approved the permit by voice vote.
Before new business, the Neighborhood Commission presented an Award of Excellence to Todd Blackaby for personally organizing and performing a large cleanup under a State Highway 90 culvert; commissioners said Mr. Blackaby contributed more than 40 hours of work.
At the call to the public, Lacey Delgado told council that library surveillance footage for an incident involving children was not available at the door where the event occurred and asked the city to consider funding or processes to help families obtain footage when needed to support protective orders.
Mayor Clea McCaw closed with congratulations to local youth sports teams and stated she will not seek reelection this year.
