Sen. Vincent Borja adjourns education oversight hearing; follow-up set for Feb. 4, written testimony open for seven days

Senator Vincent Borja, chairman of the Committee on Education, Libraries and Public Broadcasting, adjourned a continuation of an education oversight hearing Wednesday and scheduled a follow-up informational session for Feb. 4 to review audit findings and leadership transition matters. "This morning's oversight hearing is now adjourned and the time is now 09:01AM," Borja said.

The committee described the Feb. 4 meeting as an opportunity to hear from the Office of Public Accountability and GDOE about the auditor's findings and the department's leadership transition. Borja said the continuation was timed to allow the incoming superintendent to complete her assessment of the department before the committee proceeds.

The announcement included public-participation instructions. The committee will accept written testimony for seven days from the adjournment date. Borja instructed that mailed submissions be addressed to "Senator Vincent Borja, Chairman of the Committee on Education, Libraries and Public Broadcasting" and sent to the DNA Building, Suite 502238, Archbishop Flora Street, Agatna, Guam 96910. He also said electronic submissions may be sent to the contact as read into the record: "contact the center of vincebora dot com." The committee said it will release the Feb. 4 agenda in accordance with the open government law.

The follow-up hearing is scheduled as an informational session; the committee did not take votes or make formal findings at the adjourned meeting. The next procedural step is the Feb. 4 informational hearing, at which the committee said it will examine audit material and matters surrounding the leadership transition.
