County approves 2026 cooperative agreement with Utah State University Extension

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the 2026 cooperative agreement with the Utah State University Extension that funds local Extension services.
Presenter Steve described the Cooperative Extension System as a partnership of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the land‑grant university and county governments and said the local office returns community services that exceed county investment. ‘‘For about every dollar the county gives us, we provide about 3 and a half or 4 and a half dollars worth of service back to the community,’’ the presenter said.
Commissioners praised the breadth of Extension programming, citing activities from 4‑H and agriculture outreach to community education such as winter gardening and organic transition support. Commissioner Jensen moved to approve the 2026 cooperative agreement and Commissioner Martinez seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
County staff said the agreement outlines budget contributions and the responsibilities of the county and the Extension office for the coming year.
