Town board approves slate of appointments, names deputy supervisor and forms comprehensive plan committee

During the Jan. 7 reorganization meeting the Town of Clinton board approved multiple appointment and organization measures.

By voice vote the board authorized the supervisor to appoint a deputy supervisor and subsequently Speaker 5 announced Council person Elliot Werner will serve as deputy supervisor for the term Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026. The board also approved appointments of Mary Malloy as first deputy town clerk and deputy vital statistics registrar and Felicity Schafer as deputy town clerk and deputy vital statistics registrar, both for Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026.

Speaker 1 read a slate of liaison assignments for the board’s members for the 2026 term, naming specific duties and committees for Councilman Werner, Councilman Dicus, Councilwoman Auspitz and Councilwoman Estello and listing Supervisor Witten’s liaison responsibilities.

On planning, the board approved the creation of an ad hoc comprehensive plan committee effective Jan. 7, 2026. The committee will have 10 members: five public members, two Town Board representatives and one representative each from the planning board, zoning board of appeals and the Conservation Advisory Committee. Nelson, Pope & Voorhees was named as the planner‑advisor. The committee’s charge includes prioritizing short‑, mid‑ and long‑term initiatives, establishing subcommittees, coordinating with town departments and fostering public engagement; it is to present a draft comprehensive plan to the town board by Feb. 1, 2028, after which the committee will dissolve.
