Hinsdale preservation commission approves barbershop window graphics, approves minutes and discusses plaque and sign-code work

The Hinsdale Historic Preservation Commission approved the minutes from its Nov. 5 meeting, granted a signed-permit review for window graphics at the Hinsdale Barbershop and discussed plaque language for the restored clock tower and the village’s upcoming sign-code update at its Jan. 7 meeting.

Minutes: The commission moved to approve minutes from Nov. 5. One member who did not attend said they had watched the prior meeting and indicated they would abstain; the roll-call vote recorded the motion as approved.

Hinsdale Barbershop signed-permit review: Staff introduced a signed-permit case for Case A-54-2025 at 20 West Hinsdale Avenue for Hinsdale Barbershop. Austin of FASTSIGNS (Downers Grove) said the proposal is for interior-mounted vinyl graphics designed to resist exterior tampering. Commissioners asked no substantive questions and approved the signed-permit review on a motion and roll-call vote.

Plaque for clock tower/carillon: Staff reported an update on a second plaque to commemorate the restored clock tower, bell and carillon on the north side of the memorial building. Staff circulated revised wording based on comments from the carillon committee and from Trustee Fisher and said the plaque will be ordered from the same vendor used previously. Staff offered to send a proof for final review by email before production.

Sign-code update and 6th Street: Staff said there were no updates on 6th Street. On sign-code work, staff said they plan to ‘‘ramp up’’ the sign-code update project this year and more information will be shared as the effort progresses.

Adjournment: A motion to adjourn carried on roll call with all recorded Ayes. The meeting concluded after brief social comments from commissioners and staff.

What’s next: Staff will circulate final plaque proofs and follow up on permitting for approved items.
