The Jan. 5 organizational meeting began with ceremonial items: the council recognized outgoing leaders, administered oaths of office to the incoming mayor and new councilors, and heard tributes from city departments.
Outgoing Mayor Debbie Kling delivered closing remarks reflecting on eight years of service and thanked staff and council members. Councilman Randy Haverfield was honored with presentations from the Nampa Fire and Police departments; Haverfield spoke about his 12 years of service and thanked his family.
The newly sworn mayor issued a proclamation declaring January as Human Trafficking and Stalking Awareness and Prevention Month and invited staff from the Nampa Family Justice Center to introduce themselves. Taylor Cook, task force manager and licensed clinical social worker, and Emily Merrill, anti‑trafficking outreach specialist, were present and briefly described their roles.
During public forum Justin Buckholtz congratulated the new mayor and council, spoke about unity and faith in service, and Susie Robinson urged city leaders to recruit auto manufacturers, arguing Nampa’s logistics, workforce and potential incentives (she referenced a possible 10‑year tax abatement) make the city a fit for new plants.
The mayor thanked speakers and moved to the meeting’s remaining business.
