The High Point Finance Committee approved a contract award Thursday to repair a key piece of composting equipment.
Robbie Stone, public service director, told the committee that James River Equipment was on‑site performing maintenance at the Ingleside Compost Facility and discovered major failures in the tub grinder’s main clutch and mill bearings. Stone said the machine was deemed unsafe to operate and the city’s backup unit also has mechanical and electrical problems. "We are requesting to award this to James River Equipment in the amount of $180,996.45 under the Sourcewell contract," Stone said, adding that funds are available in the current operating budget.
There were no substantive questions on the item. A motion to approve the award was moved and seconded and the chair announced the ayes carried; the transcript does not record a roll‑call tally.
The approval allows the department to proceed with repairs under the Sourcewell contract.
