The Cass County Commission voted Jan. 7 to approve a tax-abatement request for property owner Rodney Anger after county staff and the City of Fargo agreed the property’s assessed value overstated its condition.
Property‑tax analyst Matt Stenger told commissioners that Fargo’s assessing office determined the property showed deferred maintenance and was undergoing remodeling, making an accurate valuation for the assessment date difficult. "Given the circumstances, I agree with City of Fargo's determination of value," Stenger said, and reported that the city and applicant had arrived at an agreed‑to assessment.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the abatement by roll call. Mike Splonskowski of the City of Fargo assessing office was present to answer detailed questions, and no commissioners voiced objections during discussion.
The county did not provide the dollar amount of the adjustment in the public discussion recorded at the meeting; county staff said the City of Fargo's revised estimate formed the basis of the agreement.
