The Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency board on Nov. 19 heard that a voucher program with Uber intended to drive residents to local restaurants expired and that some business owners were unaware the program existed.
Director Butler praised the District 8 “Date Night” event but told the board that the Uber voucher program "expired on November 13 at 2AM" and that property and restaurant owners she spoke with "weren't aware of the program," raising concerns about outreach and program monitoring. She said the incentive had changed her own behavior and could help keep residents patronizing Hallandale businesses instead of neighboring cities.
Chair Cooper and other members suggested stepped-up public information and simple marketing steps — such as in-restaurant stickers or condo mail‑room flyers — to increase awareness if the program is renewed. Cooper urged cross‑departmental coordination for broader outreach.
Executive Director Dr. Earl told the board the agency had "a code that expired for the District 8 event, and then we have an ongoing agreement" with Uber, and that when the chair tested the city website it displayed an expired-code message (he referenced an expired-Nov. 12 message on the site). Dr. Earl said he could be missing another active code and asked staff to continue monitoring the program.
The board did not take formal action on renewing or expanding the voucher program during the meeting; members discussed outreach and monitoring as next steps but no motion to change the program was recorded.
Votes at a glance: The board voted unanimously, 5–0, to approve the meeting minutes. The consent agenda (items A–E) was also approved unanimously, 5–0.
The meeting adjourned after routine business and holiday remarks; staff and board members were thanked for their work on CRA programs and local events.
