Guadalupe County commissioners approved an order Dec. 2 restricting certain consumer fireworks that include sticks or fins (commonly bottle rockets and similar devices) in unincorporated areas, following a presentation from Fire Marshal Patrick Pindrup.
Pindrup told the court the county has to decide by Dec. 14 and recommended the restriction so vendors have advance notice before the commercial sale date. Pindrup cited the KBDI drought index levels and the governor’s disaster declaration for drought as context for the recommendation, and he said the order would be in effect through Jan. 2 unless rescinded under local burn‑ban provisions. The order allows tube‑launched and other non‑stick aerial devices to remain legal.
Commissioners discussed vendor impacts, enforcement, and whether the order could be reversed if rain significantly improves conditions; staff said the order would remain effective for the season and vendors should be informed early. The court approved the order by voice vote.
