Pastor Anthony Sanders named Hallandale Beachs 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian

The Hallandale Beach City Commission presented the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award to Pastor Anthony Sanders during its Jan. 7 meeting.
Mayor Cooper announced that 12 nominations were submitted this year and that Sanders was selected for "over 40 years of serving this community," citing his role in renaming the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center and frequent community food distributions.
Pastor Sanders accepted the award, thanked the city and volunteers, and acknowledged family members and staff who support his work. "Everybody can be great because anyone can serve," Sanders said while accepting a plaque dated Jan. 7, 2026.
Reginald Smith, who introduced himself as a lifelong Hallandale resident and former Marine, outlined plans for the citys MLK parade and celebration, saying the event will emphasize education and feature the Jungle Nuke Band from The Bahamas; Mayor Cooper said the parade will start at 10 a.m. at B.F. James Park with a noon celebration at O.B. Johnson Park.
